Promoting Health and Wellness
We envision a community that works to improve the health status of all Geauga County residents by promoting physical and mental well being through prevention, education, treatment and ability to access affordable health care. United Way actively supports programs that provide health services to those otherwise would not be able to afford them.

Rose Paterek is thankful for one of lifes simplest things the ability to walk. And she is grateful to the staff of the West Geauga Senior Center, located behind Patterson's Fruit Farm on Caves Roadin Chester Township , and to those who introduced her to the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP) more than 5 years ago. The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is a group recreational exercise program using gentle stretching, range of motion and endurance exercises taught by an Arthritis Foundation-trained leader. I've stayed with it, says Rose, 91. If she's not feeling well or moving quite right, Rose, who is one of five persons in the class 90 and older, says she knows if she does the Arthritis Foundation exercises, her pain will go away. And after class, I feel good. Teddi Wallace, director of the Senior Center and Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program leader, said, Rose has been very committed to coming and faithful to the (exercise) program. I,ve seen an improvement in her range of motion, since she started taking the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program class, which meets on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. We have a group that stays together, Rose said of fellow participants in AFEP. We have a great time. A lot of them come just for the exercise. For Rose, coming to class proves something else: I can still walk around and I am very thankful for that. |
