United Way Services of Geauga County is a volunteer-driven organization that links, supports and delivers health and human services to improve the quality of life in the community.
For most people, United Way is the familiar name of "a charity" that does good things in the community. But "what" does United Way do? How does it happen?
These are the questions routinely asked of the more than 1400 independent United Ways nationwide. Although these organizations have many things in common, the "what" and the "how" of improving the quality of life in their respective communities varies a great deal.
In recent years, United Ways everywhere have been challenged to re-evaluate their missions and priorities.
As a result, an evolution of the traditional United Way model of fund raising and fund distribution is under way. In Geauga County, that means finding unique solutions to community challenges and areas of unmet need.
Currently, Geauga County faces challenges in the areas of transportation, childcare and development, health & human services staffing and an overall fragmentation of community resources. In addition--and perhaps surprisingly--poverty, hunger and homelessness are also experienced by many of our residents.
As an organization committed to the betterment of our community, United Way Services of Geauga County stands ready to meet the challenges of the future with fresh and proactive.
